People’s Choice Awards 2022 Red Carpet Rundown

The stars came out for the People’s Choice Awards, an event with a dress code somewhere between night club and wealthy child’s birthday party, which tends to make it one of the more unpredictable of the non-music awards red carpets. Let’s assess the very colorful and notable choices of the night, shall we?

Billy Porter

We can’t see a thing wrong with any of it. We haven’t suddenly discovered a newfound love of ruffles so much as we recognize when a person knows how to work them well. The jewelry is fun. We wish the belt didn’t look so dull.

Carrie Underwood

This gal absolutely loves two things: A Barbie gown and showing off the results of her leg day workouts. It’s quite the swerve to see her step out in something like this and we’re absolutely delighted by it. She looks great. It’s still Country Glam, but in a different form.

Dwayne Wade in Louis Vuitton

We feel like nothing else in this look lives up to that jacket, which is gorgeous. He keeps sporting too-short sleeves lately.

Ellen Pompeo

It feels very 1980s “Stars of NBC” promotional video. It’s fun in theory, but we’re not convinced that it suits her. Rue McClanahan, on the other hand, probably would have crushed it.

Heidi Klum

Heidi, your dress is giving us a migraine. Love the boots, though.

Jessica Betts and Niecy Nash-Betts

That is one fine-looking track suit. We can’t really get worked up over athleisure wear on the red carpet. This is not exactly the Oscars, after all. Niecy’s dress is as perfectly fitted as ever, but the hem hits at a weird spot. We’d have preferred gown-length with a slit.

Joel Kim Booster

He looks cute, but we feel like he’d hiding the hot under that suit. The fit could be better.

Kelly Clarkson

It’s okay, we guess. Gets the job done, suits the occasion. We think she should’ve opted for the kind of cozy-fun maxi-dresses she sports on her show.

Kenan Thompson

This looks great. Love the choice of colored pants rather than a pair of black ones.

Lizzo in Alexander McQueen

Just gorgeous. The jewelry elevates a dress that we didn’t think needed any elevating, but it’s all perfectly at her level, if that makes any sense.

Mariska Hargitay

We’ve been seeing a lot of the classic white tucked-in shirt on the red carpet lately. We’d like to say we like this version, but the color of that skirt is awful.

Mayan Lopez

We’ve reached our limit on pink pant suits of late. It’s starting to feel like a Mary Kay convention around here. The bag is cute, but it’s the only thing we like about the look.

Mj Rodriguez in Giambattista Valli Couture

She can make it come off dramatic, but the design is a little too precious to us.

Noah Schnapp in Fendi

We’d probably hate this look on him if he were five years older, but it looks pretty cute. The Fendi label is silly.

Olivia Wilde in Dior

It’s fine. We don’t think there’s any crime in wearing a fairly stale style to the PCAs, but it’s still a fairly stale style.

Ryan Reynolds in Thom Browne

As much as we love the classic Thom Browne look, we’re not convinced it suits him, no pun intended.

Sarah Hyland in Vera Wang

Meh. It’s generic and forgettable.

Shania Twain in Rodarte

A classic returning to her classic look. We’ll view this as stagewear and keep our style critiques to ourselves. That’s not the point of it. We’re just surprised to see it’s a Rodarte.
