Oh, we can tell you right now that this one is going to be the most fun out of all of this year’s Oscars-ology posts. While 2023 saw an unusually high number of acting nominees utilizing a lot of high-fashion help for their campaigns, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Angela Bassett was the one who outdid all of the others in the areas of boldness and exuberance.

Even when she’s going for a more pared-back sort of look, she’ll be sporting a metallic bag, a lot of diamonds and a big ruffle. This is minimalism, Angela-style.

But when she goes for it, the lady really goes for it, on a level most of the other acting nominees wouldn’t dare.

She can give you classic Hollywood glamour, but she’ll be sure to outsparkle everyone else there.

Or she’ll give you cheek-sucking high-fashion eleganza, but the shapes will be big and the silhouette will be unusual.

In fact, we’d say that’s the throughline through most of her awards season looks. There’s usually one big, exuberant detail, often set on a fairly standard gown.

She doesn’t stick to one house or one style, but she makes sure you can’t miss her. We don’t know exactly what she’ll pick for Oscars night, but we know one thing for sure.
