This is, to be blunt, quite awful. The style is way too overwrought for her and the dress is just swallowing her whole. The boots don’t go at all.

It’s pretty enough, but the sash is placed at an odd spot on the dress. If it’s going to sit that much higher than the skirt, we think it should be a little thinner.
Charli XCX in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture
JPG took the “it looks like ruffled curtains” joke and built it right into the dress. It’s a fun look.
Constance Wu in Marchesa
Marchesa’s really trying to rebrand itself but we think the turn toward Art Deco needs a little finessing. There’s too much going on here for any of it to truly register. On the other hand, it’s well suited to her and dramatic enough for the met Gala.
Dakota Johnson in Gucci
You’re a year late on the theme, dear. Having said that, this looks pretty great on her.
Danai Gurira in Gabriela Hearst
LOVE this look for being stylish and feeling bold. We just wish there was a bit more Met Gala drama to it. We’re not sure what’s missing, but it feels just a bit downplayed in tone.
Dua Lipa in Versace
The big hair combined with the eye-exploding ensemble make this a damn good attempt at camp fashion. It’s fun and the colors look amazing.
Halsey in Prabal Gurung
“Sexy” is, in our opinion, the absolute worst way to go for the Met Gala; worse even than resting on pretty. It just feels so tonally wrong for the event and her posing here looks vaguely ridiculous to us.
Jennifer Connelly in Louis Vuitton
This is just a normal Monday night outfit for her. She was actually running out to get some extra keys made and just stopped to say hello to some people she knew.
Katie Holmes in Zac Posen
Posen did okay for himself this year. So long as he leans into the Disney Witch undertones of his aesthetic, it really works. Love this on her. She hasn’t worn something so dramatic in years.
Lilly Collins in Giambattista Valli Couture
Bow down to some primo “Priscilla Presley on her wedding day” cosplay. This is fun as hell and she looks really cute.
Mj Rodriguez in Richard Quinn
Just okay, we’re afraid.
Penélope Cruz in Vintage Chanel
Gorgeous. It’s nearly impossible to do elegance at the Met Gala anymore and come off looking like you’ve hit the mark, but this feels right.
Regina King in Oscar de la Renta
It pains us to say this, but we found this underwhelming. The design is more Oscars-appropriate than Met Gala appropriate and the colors look too muted to us.
Rita Ora in Marc Jacobs
Conventional, but high-impact glamour. It feels like her head styling isn’t quite up to the dress.
Sarah Paulson in Moschino
Another huge disappointment. It’s actually a pretty great look that she’s working perfectly. But given all the fashion cray she unleashes on the regular, it’s strange to see here here wearing something relatively conventional in comparison.

Tessa Thompson in Chanel Couture
Credit where it’s due: this lady BROUGHT IT. That’s one odd and vaguely unsettling look she’s sporting. Completely off-theme, but hey, if she wants to go dominatrix-in-pink-ruffles on us, who are we to challenge that?
Zoë Kravitz in Saint Laurent
Maybe we’re just worn out from looking at gowns, but this seems just okay to us. The head styling looks gorgeous and the cutout is striking, but the nipple covers seem a little silly.
