That is some SERIOUS coordinating going on. They look like they’re getting married and to be honest, we don’t think that’s remotely a coincidence.
We think it’s kind of funny that the trend for lesbian prestige drama premiere red carpets is to have one lead be the butch and the other one be the femme. And by “butch,” we mean the red carpet version of the term, which is so far from the real world one that it can be embodied by a silk and lace Givenchy jumpsuit, but even so. Rooney looks gorgeous and Cate looks, let’s be honest here, a little cray, but the thought behind the looks is pretty damn savvy, from where we’re sitting. A good red carpet can be as much about costume as about style (within reason, because we wouldn’t want to see Robert Downey Jr. show up dressed as Iron Man) and this is some very effective costuming.
